Twilight Saga: Eclipse Movie Review

My rating:

As expected, I watched the advance screening of Twilight Saga: Eclipse at SM Megamall Cinema 6. Thanks a lot to Cherry Mobile Eclipse for sponsoring this event and giving me the opportunity to be among the first to see it.

I don’t want to be bias having expressed so openly that I am a Twilight Addict. I promise I’ll try not to give any spoilers in this post. I just want to give this review from someone who has read the books and has been following the series since its movie conception.

Meadow Scene at The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

I must let you, my readers, know that I went out of the cinema with a beaming smile in my face. I am happy with Eclipse for the following reasons:

  • For once Edward loosened up a bit. Contrary to Robert Pattinson‘s portrayal in Twilight and New Moon, he seem to have shown the lighter side of the character. He smiles as oppose to seemingly in constant pain. I know RobPatts saw Edward‘s character as someone who was in deep pain and in constant conflict with his vampire nature to kill and his longing to be the good, humane and vegetarian vampire Carlisle wanted him to be. So yeah, I’m glad there was a change in Robert Pattinson‘s approach.
  • David Slade included my favorite scenes in the book–the part when Charlie was asking Bella about getting intimate, Edward’s marriage proposal, Edward’s jealousy incidents, and the tent scene with Edward, Jacob and Bella (of course!).
  • On the production side, I love that the make-up does not look overly done as in the New Moon. Their faces, to me, seem closer to natural-looking and not too artificial. There were a lot of scenes when I said, Kristen actually looked pretty or Edward looked dashing and handsome.
  • Loved that David Slade did not omit the back stories of the Quileute TribeRosalie and Jasper and they were portrayed the way I imagined them while reading the book.
  • The exchange of lines between Edward and Jacob is remarkably endearing. Kudos to Melissa Rosenberg for finally doing the dialogs right. The characters, especially Jacob, did not appear obnoxious at all, just plainly saying he’s ‘hotter’ than Edward in a matter-of-factly tone.

I can go on enumerating a long list of reasons why I am happy with the Twilight Saga: Eclipse. However, I would risk putting spoilers if I do so. So, I know that a lot of boyfriends and husbands would actually drag their feet just to give in to their girlfriends or wife’s Twilight addiction, but bare with us Twlighters. Two more films and we’ll never torment you again with our endless drooling over Edward or Jacob.

That said, I can’t wait for Breaking Dawn, the last book of the franchise, which reminds me, I hope that Bill Condon will do as good if not better. Breaking Dawn is my most favorite of the four books. I wouldn’t want to be disappointed at all.

Hope everyone would enjoy this movie as much as I did. I enjoyed it so much I am going to the Eclipse block screening sponsored by Twilight Coven Philippines tomorrow.

Yet another on point post. So happy I subscribed to your site a couple of days ago, and I would recommend that other people visiting at the moment do the same. I know, you will be back every week.

  2. Thank you for this blog entry, I really liked twilight eclipse. I was disappointed in New Moon, so I was a little apprehensive to watch Eclipse. But I was wrong, David Slade did an amazing job regardless of what others say. I thought New Moon dragged on for most of the movie and peaked towards the end. Eclipse had me at the edge of my seat, 2 hrs went by quick and left me wanting more. The writers stayed really close to the book which I really appreciated. Taylor’s acting got better and looked more natural, I can see that he has morphed into Jacob’s character. Kristen Stewart still needs a little bit more emotion, I still don’t think she has quite captured Bella’s character yet. Bella is complex, emotional and dramatic; and I don’t get that from Kristen. She brings a lot of her own into Bella, very black and white. I hope to see some improvement in Breaking Dawn.

I totally agree. The actors seem to have matured both in their approach and portrayal of the characters. And like you, I am looking forward to a better acting from KStew. Thanks for visiting my blog. =)

well i could agree more. despite the much too disappointing twilight and new moon, eclipse nailed it. i guess, having a new director elevated twilight into justice.

I definitely agree with you Dennis. I love that David Slade was able to translate the book into a very entertaining and heartfelt movie. Thank you for your comment. =)
