My Catanduanes Island Vacation Experience

I was away for a while so I have not been able to update my blog. I spent four days in Catanduanes Island with my co-workers. Away from the hustle and bustle of city life. I must say, I had a blast and after my four-day vacation, Catanduanes became more than just an island in the Philippine archipelago to me.

Catanduanes Island is located east of the Bicol Peninsula and is the main island of Catanduanes province. Storms frequently pass by this island because of its location; hence, Catanduanes has also been called, “Land of the Howling Winds“.

HOW TO GET THERE

I, together with 25 other friends, got to Catanduanes by bus. We travelled for almost 13 hours via RSL Bus Line from Ali Mall, Cubao Terminal to Tabaco City RO-RO port in Albay Province. From there, Regina Shipping Lines RO-RO trip takes around two and a half hours.

Plane ride is also an option, which lands in Virac Airport. However, land trip lets you see and appreciate the view especially the majestic Mt. Mayon upon reaching Naga City.

What is more than 12 hours of back-breaking bus ride if you will wake up with such a view?

HOW IS IT LIKE?

Once in Virac, I found the vast green sceneries very enthralling. The sky is bright blue and the air smells fresh to the lungs. I am not use to inhaling clean air so I found it very refreshing.

See how blue the sky is. It looks like a postcard image.

We stayed at Twin Rock Beach Resort for the entire four-day getaway, occasionally going out to explore other places of interests like the historical Luyang Cave and the equally breath-taking skimboarding spots in Mamangal Beach. My co-workers and I even went to a bar one night just to experience the nightlife of the island so we were not bored at all.

Technology is a big part of my everyday life. Catanduanes, however, is the place to detach from mobile phones and computer. Network signal is not that good in this place. But it didn’t matter so much because I went there to have a vacation after all.

If you’re interested to spend your vacation in Catanduanes Island, I’m sure that by now you’re asking how much money you’ll need. My fare (bus and RO-RO) going to and from Catanduanes cost around Php 2,000.00. I actually spent only around Php 5,000.00 for the entire four-day Catanduanes trip, cost of pasalubong items included.

Each of my Catanduanes vacation activities deserve a separate post because they have a story of their own so watch out for that. I took lots of photos enough for me to show and share how much I enjoyed the experience.
